Dale has over 20 years of legal and business experience serving corporate and law firm clients in a wide variety of industries and endeavors domestically and internationally. He is a pragmatic, business-oriented, “hands-on” attorney with a successful track record and extensive experience in handling complex corporate and commercial transactions, regulatory and compliance matters, litigation, SEC matters, SOX issues, internal and external investigations, employment and labor issues, lobbying and public affairs, risk management and insurance matters, strategic planning, and crisis management. He employs best management practices, is cost-sensitive, and maintains the highest level of professionalism and ethics. Dale is a team player who regularly works with top business and financial executives, as well as line managers and employees, regulators and outside stakeholders.
Dale started his legal career as an Associate with Baker & Botts in Houston, Texas as a trial lawyer handling a variety of litigation matters, and as an employment and labor lawyer. His clients ranged from Fortune 100 companies to start-up businesses and entrepreneurs. Dale’s clients included utility and energy companies, high rise and industrial construction companies, financial institutions, real estate developers, home builders, transportation companies, automobile dealers, security companies, not-for-profit organizations and others.
From Baker & Botts, Dale moved to Maxxam Inc. where he practiced for 10 years, the last five as Managing Counsel or Senior Assistant General Counsel. Dale served as in-house counsel to Maxxam and all its subsidiary companies (see above) which operated in a wide variety of disparate industries including mining and manufacturing, metals and chemicals, energy, natural resources, real estate development, hospitality and gaming, securities trading and others. Internally, Dale worked directly with the Chairman, subsidiary/business unit Presidents and CFOs, line managers and employees, public relations, investor relations, risk management, accounting, tax, and human resources. Externally, Dale worked directly with investment bankers, federal, state and local officials, lobbyists, trade associations, outside counsel, outside auditors, insurance/reinsurance companies, government agencies, shareholders, analysts and rating agencies.
Dale left Maxxam to become Executive Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary for Clear Channel Entertainment and its subsidiaries worldwide (see above). Dale retooled and upgraded CCE’s internal and external legal function, establishing its role as a valued and key player in the overall business enterprise. He created partnerships with the CEOs, CFOs and COOs of each business unit which improved communication, reporting and management of legal risks and costs, and which improved performance and compliance. Dale developed and implemented processes for better managing legal risks, outside legal costs, litigation, regulatory and consumer issues through, among other things, early assessment and intervention, constructive engagement, litigation avoidance, mediation, executive and employee training, outside counsel guidelines, negotiated fee deals, maximizing value of insurance policies, and shifting risks and costs to third parties. He worked closely—as an integral member of the management team—with each business/operating unit, finance, accounting, tax, human resources, public relations, safety, risk management, and CCE’s parent and sister companies. Externally, Dale worked with key domestic and international business and joint venture partners, customers, outside interest holders, regulators and other government officials, community leaders, lobbyists, insurers, outside counsel, and opposing counsel.
Dale is currently serving as Executive Vice President – Business & Legal Affairs for BASE Entertainment (an established international entertainment company specializing in live entertainment of all genres, primarily in resorts & casinos) and BASE Hologram (a new and growing international entertainment company specializing in the production of holographic entertainment of all types, with current shows including musical tours and concerts of Whitney Houston, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, and Maria Callas).
